Who is behind Pig 'n' Mix Dog Treats?
Pig 'n' Mix Dog Treats is run by "one man and his dog" (or a woman in this case!) We are a small online business providing quality supplies for your pets that are delivered straight to your door.
Our story started with my beloved pet pooch Ledley. (He was named after the Spurs football player Ledley King!) At the age of 10 Ledley needed cruciate surgery for the second time, and I knew from his previous surgery that he was bound to put on weight due to lack of exercise, and his love of all things food! So I went on the search for some healthy low fat food to try and help keep his weight down.
After doing some research I was very surprised to find out just what goes into some dog foods. They can contain flavourings, flavour enhancers, colours, emulsifiers, emulsifying salts, sweeteners, thickeners, and anti-foaming, bulking, carbonating, foaming, gelling and glazing agents.
The process used when cooking the food means that a lot of the nutrients are lost. Many ingredients are processed/cooked even before they reach the factory, which means that plenty of nutrients are already reduced or gone. The processed ingredients are then heated again with steam to several hundred degrees, and put under high pressure. The food is then cut into shapes and put in a high-temperature drying oven. The many rounds of cooking and heating under extreme temperatures and pressure means that many of the vital nutrients your pet needs have been destroyed.
I couldn't believe that the foods that I have been feeding my dog for years which I believed to be quality foods, were actually very poor in nutrients. So in my search to find some better quality food for my dog I also came across some natural dog treats which are both nutritious and also have many health benefits for your dog such as caring for teeth and gums, promote healthy joints, promote healthy skin & coat, good for sensitive tummies, and the animal fur acts as a natural de-wormer for your dog too! The treats are air-dried, this process means that all of the nutrients in them are preserved and the treats are 100% natural, they don't contain any additives or preservatives.
Even though the thought of dead animal parts weren't exactly that appealing to me, I knew my dog would love them! Treats are an essential part of my dogs diet, they are great for boredom busting and are great for dental care too.
During my research and looking for suppliers I found out that a lot of the air dried animal parts didn't have much of an explanation as to their origins or the welfare standards of the animals from which they've come from. When I questioned suppliers about the source of their animal parts many stated they were sourced worldwide. This made me question the quality as 'worldwide' could mean that they have come from places such as Turkey or India, which could mean mislabelled, poor quality imported products that are not produced to DEFRA standards.
So I looked harder to find suppliers
who responsibly sourced only British and EU approved natural treats and products that had animal welfare as their top priority.
Many other 'natural treat boxes' which are being sold online don't state anything about the origins of the animal parts in their treat boxes (or if they even care where they have come from?)
I wanted to provide the very best quality products for your pet (and mine) that could be found in the UK, and also have the the knowledge that these treats have come only from responsible sources within the UK and EU and have been produced to the highest standards and are DEFRA approved. I have done just that!
I have searched high and low for the very best quality products. All products have been taste tested by my pooch Ledley. If he doesn't like it or if I don't think it's good enough for him, then I simply would not sell it to you!
